The Poster Club - Sofia Lind series

Artist Sofia Lind from Sweden

With her mixture of soft colors and intuitive motifs, Swedish artist Sofia Lind has created a captivating world with charming figures.

In her Stockholm studio, Sofia Lind works mainly with gouache and watercolors on paper. She explores the interplay of colors to either calm or fascinate the viewer.
"I often start with a color I don't like and combine it with others to keep the process exciting and dynamic."

With a background in craft and design, Sofia's artwork is rich in pattern. She explains:
"I have been working with patterns and pattern design for quite some time. The mathematical and repetitive nature of pattern making really suits me and I often incorporate patterns into my work."

Sofia had originally studied engineering, but after graduating she realized that this was not the right path for her.
"I started studying at the College of Design and Crafts (HDK) and it felt like coming home. Everything started to fall into place and, for the first time in years, I felt like I was facing the right challenges."

The art of creating

Even as an established artist, Sofia Lind sometimes struggles with the fear of falling short.

"I often sketch without letting performance anxiety guide me. I reassure myself that I can discard anything and keep it to myself. This approach helps me to tackle new projects."

This mindset doesn't hold her back. Instead, Sofia immerses herself in her work and lets her passion inspire her. This fuels her creativity and drives her artistic progress.
"The craft of painting inspires me, and when I place my work in a larger context, it takes on meaning."

Engaging with art - whether through creating or viewing the work of others - is Sofia's way of becoming socially engaged. It gives her perspective and a deeper understanding of the world around her. When asked how she likes to spend her free time, she mentions a painting: "I've always admired Monet's Breakfast in the Garden . I dream of starting my Sundays like this, with a wonderful breakfast in my garden, preferably with family and friends."
