Handmade furniture from native wood in a new Scandinavian design
The label The Hansen Family has a strong craftsmanship character. The designer Gesa Hansen who grew up in a Scandinavian family of carpenters, designers and architects founded the label The Hansen Family. After studying design at the Bauhaus University in Weimar she worked for various design studios such as Jean Nouvel and H5 in Paris or NDC in Tokyo.
Gesa Hansen has worked as an independent designer and also as Art Director in her father Hans Hansen’s company since 2007. The Hansen Family emerged from the idea of combining family tradition with modern design and the craftsmanship experience of the family company.
The production workshop for furniture by The Hansen Family is in Sauerland. Only ecologically grown oak which comes from the surrounding woods is used for the furniture.
The designer Gesa Hansen had a successful debut and won international recognition and numerous awards for her Remix Collection. The classic design of the products refers to their Scandinavian roots. Decades old, archived family sketches are combined with the functional demands of contemporary times and with natural resources and craftsmanship tradition to create unique objects.
