Italian manufacturer of kitchen appliances
Smeg was founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni in the Italian town of Guastalla. The Bertazzonis were active as blacksmiths for a long time before they became manufacturers of stoves and kitchen appliances.
Smeg's history began in the post-war period, when needs changed with the change in family structures and the new role of the working woman. Thus, the company set about developing kitchen appliances that made housework easier and became a status symbol through design and functionality.
Gas stoves with automatic ignition, ovens with cooking programming, dishwashers, cooking hobs and built-in ovens characterised the Smeg range from the 1950s onwards. In the mid-1970s, the company also began to collaborate with leading architects and designers to create devices that went beyond practical use to become genuine design icons.
Always focused on maximum quality, technology and design, Smeg is an acronym for Smalterie - Metallurgiche - Emiliane - Guastalla , a company known worldwide for excellence made in Italy . Today the company is managed by the third generation.
