The well-known wooden creatures were designed by Kay Bojesen between 1935 and 1957. The Danish company Rosendahl produces the collection today in close cooperation with Kay Bojesen’s family. The wooden creatures are between fantasy figure and design object. Full of soul, humour, handicraft and a mischievous look in the eye – and thus an appeal to the playful kid in all of us.
In Kay Bojesen’s naïve designs, form and object, seriousness and game melt together in unity. At the same time, Bojesen possesses the inimitable ability of awakening wood to life, making his works international design icons. The newspaper Wallpaper even called the wooden monkey by Kay Bojesen the embodiment of the Danish design in 2008.
Not only in the children’s room, but also in shelves and offices, the wooden creatures by Kay Bojesen are now desirable collection objects that are handed from generation to generation.
The creature are the perfect idea for any place that is full of life and play –
baptisms, birthdays, confirmations, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries. Throughout his entire life, Bojesen paid homage to his mantra that great design should be human, warm and vivid. ”They should be reminiscent of a circus,” he used to say about his works, of which his wooden creatures count among the most popular.
With his user-friendly and modern design, Kay Bojesen counts among the greatest Danish functionalists. In his naïve designs, form and function, seriousness and game melt to a unity. At the same time, Bojesen possesses an inimitable ability of awaking wood to life, making his works international design icons.
