Plank’s history is more than a hundred years old. The company, founded by Karl Plank in 1893, has been passed on from father to son, as is tradition in Italian companies.
Passed down first to Karl Jr. and then to his son Martin who, since 1979, has been running it and, recently, has been helped by his son Michael. Within this period of time, the company has transformed from its artisan origins to an industrial enterprise.
Today Plank’s production makes use of sophisticated automation systems whenever this will allow an optimal balance between costs and the quality of the product; nevertheless, some aspects of the workmanship, where manual ability is indispensable, remain artisanal.
Plank uses various technologies in production in harmony with its corporate philosophy which has always been open to research and experimentation. This has led to the use of various, innovative technologies.
Technology and functionality united by design has always been the goal. Under this main theme, the collection has grown and become intrinsically connected to the name Plank. The collection is divided into various product types: chairs, armchairs, lounge chairs, table systems, barstools, and accessories.
The company has earned many prizes and awards throughout the years. Including: Interior Innovation Award 2004 by IMM Cologne, Neocon Innovation Awards 2004, Chicago, 100% Design Blueprint, Red Dot, IF Gold Award...
