Sustainable Ocean Series by Nanna Di
The Ocean series by Mater consists of tables and chairs that were designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1955. As a new edition, classic Danish furniture made of recycled plastic from the sea will be reinterpreted.
Mater uses recycled plastic from the Danish cleantech company Plastix, one of the world's only mechanical recycling companies, for the Ocean series. Plastix transforms discarded fishing nets, trawls, ropes and other products from plastic waste into valuable recycled plastic raw materials, so-called "Green Plastics". Before being processed into Green Plastics recycled pearls, the fishing nets are sorted, analysed and cleaned before being processed into pellets in the final step. The plastic balls are later liquefied and injected into a mould so that they can serve as flexible lamellas for the Ocean table and chair.
"Imagine that the Ocean series will be a great success - maybe one day we won't have any net waste at all. That would be something." Henrik Marstrand, founder of Mater
