Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha - an expressive tableware collection

Siirtolapuutarha is the Finnish name of one of Marimekko's best-known series. It includes various expressive objects for the kitchen and dining table. The Finnish word means "allotment garden" and describes the different phases of designer Maija Louekari's journey from the busy city center to an allotment garden district with lots of colorful flowers and vegetables.

In addition, the name Siirtolapuutarha stands for the colorful mix of products that go with it: Bowls, teapots, plates, mugs and cups form a large whole in which each piece nevertheless emphasizes its personal characteristics.

The creation of the Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha products is also colorful: The pattern on the service is by Maija Louekari, while Sami Ruotsalainen designed the simple, clean shape of the tableware collection called Oiva.

Marimekko Räsymatto - world-famous dots

The iconic Marimekko Räsymatto pattern - a playful chain of black dots - was created by designer Maija Louekari, as was the allotment garden pattern. The motif is reminiscent of a patchwork quilt on the floor of a garden shed - adorned with rays of sunlight shining in through the window. Originally in black and white, Marimekko Räsymatto is now also available in many other colors.

The perfect basis for Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha

In 2009, Sami Ruotsalainen had the honorable task of creating the perfect universal base for Marimekko's famous patterns. The result was the Oiva tableware, which is the centerpiece of the Siirtolapuutarha collection. The timeless Oiva tableware series stands out for its clean lines, which give it a modern touch, but above all give the patterns plenty of room to work.

The individual items from the Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha collection look particularly beautiful when they are combined with each other. The interplay of the different characters with Siirtolapuutarha patterns was a concern of Louekari and Ruotsalainen from the very beginning when designing the series, which even owes its name to this colorful diversity.
