Outdoor vessels and furniture made of fibre cement
Today, the product range of the Swiss Eternitwerke, founded in 1903, extends from architectural products for roofs and facades to plant containers and interiors.
The company's name stands for quality and innovations made of fibre cement. Asbestos fibres were used in its manufacture in the past, which is why the company still has to deal with the dramatic consequential damage. Since the beginning of the 1990s, Eternit fibre cement has been absolutely asbestos-free, but the name Eternit is still frequently associated with asbestos in building construction.
In addition to the areas of interior and facade construction, there is now also a design department with a focus on plant pots, which the company also produced shortly after its founding. Eternit's plant pots can point to the "swiss handmade" quality seal, which means that every Eternit plant pot is made by hand in Switzerland. On the inside of each pot there is a label with the signature of the craftsman.
The production process and material make Eternit plant pots frost-proof, provided they are handled properly. However, excess water must be able to drain off through the openings in the bottom of the pot.
Ever since Willy Guhl presented his beach chair more than 50 years ago, designers have repeatedly explored the design potential of fibre cement. Currently, students at the ECAL (Ecole cantonale d'Art Lausanne) are experimenting successfully with the material. At the same time, renowned European designers are contacting Eternit with convincing ideas. There is no question that the material is more fashionable than ever, and the elegant vessels are far more than just pots for plants.
Fibre-cement Eternit consists of the natural substances cement, limestone powder, fibres, air and water, is 100 percent recyclable and has been absolutely asbestos-free for more than 25 years. The advantage for your plants: Eternit is breathable and regulates moisture. In addition, Eternit is coloured throughout, which prevents chipping and staining, and is therefore extremely durable overall.
