The Icelandic designer Sigurjón Pálsson studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, before he became independent, immediately after he graduated.
Thereby the Icelandic designer isn’t like others, but he is as well an author of crime novels and translator. As well as in a book, for Pálsson everything must fit together in his designs: form, function and material must equally aesthetically be appealing as well as be logical and correct for the designer who lives in Reykjavik.
”To look right is more beautiful than to merely look pretty”, is a statement of the Icelandic. To reduce design to the necessary and to renounce unnecessary things is the main principle of design for Pálsson, as well as for many other Nordic designers.
