The trained silversmith works for the Tojo manufacturer since 2001 in the development and production of furniture.
Roy Schäfer designed a bed which is adjustable like an accordion during his apprenticeship as a carpenter. The prototype served him as an own bed for many years. Schäfer found a young, innovative manufacturer with Tojo, including his design on a license treaty in its assortment. Roy Schäfer overworked his design for a young mobile clientele. On this basis the economic production possibilities could be found, the conditions of the license treaty fixed and the serial-produced bed could be presented on many specialists’ fairs.
After the Tojo v bed, Roy Schäfer designed further successful products such as the Abacus clock. He received the international design award Stuttgart in 2002 for his Tojo v bed.
