Anna-Kristina Isola is the daughter of the creator of the famous Unikko pattern, Maija Isola. She followed the footsteps of her mother as designer for Marimekko.
Kristina Isola was born in Helsinki in 1946 and she works as the personal assistant of her mother since 1962, where she already designed her first patterns with 16. The trained textile designer noticeably influences the patterns of her mother, which is also proven by the fact that both worked with the same name for Marimekko from 1978 to 1987.
Some patterns by Kristina Isola were also produced by Marimekko. But her re-designs were especially important: with them she gave a fresh new look to the designs of her mother. The new colour worlds for the designs of her mother Maija as well as the transmission of the famous patterns into new contexts are remarkable.
