Simple, practical furniture
Jørgen Bækmark was born in 1929 as a designer and trained carpenter. From 1958 to 1967 the Dane was the head of the Danish furniture collective FDB Møbler, which was also managed by Børge Mogensen. In the 1960s, FDB developed practical and inexpensive pieces of furniture that followed the design of the German Bauhaus and the American Shaker movement.
Jørgen Bækmark designed several of these simple and functional pieces of furniture, which also meet high aesthetic demands. His philosophy is that furniture should adapt to people and not vice versa. Thanks to their simple elegance, many of the FDB furniture was reissued in 2011 by the Danish manufacturer Hay.
