The trained textile designer Armi Ratia founded the world-leading fashion and textile company Marimekko in 1951. She counts to the first women that became entrepreneurs in that time.
After Armi Ratia worked as advertisements writer, where she supported her husband Viljo Ratia in the company Printex Oy, she founded the textile company Marimekko, whose start was celebrated with a (meanwhile legendary) fashion show.
Marimekko Philosophy
The philosophy behind Marimekko is based on three lines, which Ratia already wrote when she was 14, which didn’t lose any of their actuality:
”There is only one duty - beauty.
There is only one reality - dream.
There is only one power - love.”
Marimekko became one of the leading manufacturers of innovative textiles for fashion and home design under the management of Armi Ratia. She worked with designers that illustrated her philosophy of beauty in common objects and that could express it on a special way.
