"Don't make something unless it is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful don't hesitate to make it beautiful."
The Design House Stockholm is one of the leading producers of contemporary Scandinavian design products that simplify and embellish everyday life. From cutlery to lamps all the way to furniture and textiles, the company develops functional and timeless design products.
The intention of founder Anders Färdig was to create a type of publishing house for unique Scandinavian design as well as for original and innovative ideas. The success can be seen in the large selection of timeless, playful and stylish objects that form the current assortment of products at Design House Stockholm.
The collaboration with independent designers is similar to a publishing house, where the designers have a role that is comparable to those of authors. The Design House Stockholm is thus able to win over a number of established Scandinavian designers as well as up-and-coming talents to extend its collections.
Among the most famous objects of the Design House Stockholm count the Block Lamp by Harri Koskinen (1996) that has made it to the collection of the MoMA in New York or the floor lamp “Cord Lamp” by the design team Form Us With Love that seems to stand on its cable.
