The AJ wall lamp is a design by Danish design icon Arne Jacobsen for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which was inaugurated in 1960. Arne Jacobsen not only created the building, he also designed the entire interior, including furniture, cutlery, textiles and lighting, creating one of the first design hotels in the world.
The AJ wall lamp is based on the same principles as the AJ floor lamp. However, the shade has been enlarged for better use as a task lamp. The standard lamp consists of a lamp holder in an enameled brass tube. A tilting mechanism is integrated in the tube.
The angles of the conical metal shade are designed to match the angle of the lamp holder, or at least that's how it was intended, but in reality the angle has been adjusted somewhat as an optical correction. When the lamp is tilted down, the edge of the lamp holder is horizontal.
The interior of the shade of the AJ wall lamp by Luis Poulsen is enameled matte white. The shielding of the bulb is efficient, you can not see into the light source. If you use a clear bulb, the light is best utilized and the light rays are clearly delineated.
The lamp by Arne Jacobsen stands out for its unusual shade, which can be swiveled and rotated, and its asymmetrical shape distributes the light accordingly. AJ wall lamp - a classic of modernity.
The push switch is located on the wall socket.
Arne Jacobsen was born and raised in Copenhagen. In 1927, he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen as an architect. The buildings he designed are located in Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom.
