Luminaire series with hi-fi inspiration: Danish designer Simon Legald has created the sophisticated luminaire series Amp for Normann Copenhagen. Glass and marble or brass provide visual lightness and sensual heaviness. A nostalgic and modern look at the same time.

The idea for the shape of the Amp table lamp was born when designer Simon Legald was restoring an old radio from the 1960s at home. While searching for a spare part for the radio, he noticed the shimmer of the tube amplifier. The simple, oval shape and the lampshade refer to this - as does the name Amp , the English term for tube amps. The proportions of Normann Copenhagen's amp lamps are carefully worked out.

Normann Copenhagen and Legald have emphasized the functional details, for example the way the shade rests on the base of the Amp table lamp. The combination of the materials creates an interesting contrast between the transparent, light glass and the solid, heavy marble or brass base.

Simon Legald says: "Sometimes you can't really tell why an idea for a new object is born. But in this case the inspiration comes directly from a radio and hi-fi equipment. This is clearly evident in the design of Amp. The round, transparent shape of a tube has something very special. I thought it would go very well with a lamp. I have chosen a type of glass that is also used for hourglasses, among other things. The shape should be curved and waisted. I have chosen marble as a counterweight to the delicate glass. I think the two materials are a good match."
