The table lamp PH 3½-2½ is part of a lamp family by Louis Poulsen, which also includes the PH 3½-3 pendant lamp and the PH 3½-2½ floor lamp. The lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen, who designed the original lamp as early as 1920 and whose initials still form the name of the lamp today.
The original designed by Poul Henningsen was characterized by functionalism. This is due above all to his functional approach to what he wanted to achieve with his luminaire, namely to create a luminaire that creates an optimum lighting atmosphere in every position.
The small table lamp PH 3½-2½ was designed on the basis of the principle of a reflective three-shade system that directs most of the light downwards.
The white lacquered inside of the top screen gently directs the light downwards. The two lower opal glass screens offer a large glare-free surface. This makes optimum use of the light source to create a cosy and functional light.
The light falls exactly where it's supposed to fall. It does not dazzle, but nevertheless illuminates the area under the lamp in a functional, pleasant and, last but not least, very atmospheric way. You're almost tempted to say in a decorative way. A decorative object is the table lamp in any case whether switched on or off.
The top screen is made of centrifugally cast aluminium and comes with a white lacquered inside and a lacquered outside in various colours. The freedom to choose between the colours allows the luminaire's presence to come to the fore more or less depending on courage, imagination and creativity. In addition, the top shade has a rolled white lacquered edge, which gives it a more voluminous appearance and further sharpens the iconic profile of the three-shade lamp.
The umbrellas of the PH 3½-2½ underneath consist of mouth-blown, opalized, three-layer glass. The shades are glossy inside and sandblasted outside, resulting in a soft and diffuse light distribution.
The umbrella holder and foot is a unique detail that testifies to how much accuracy Poul Henningsen used on each lamp. The body is made of velvety, matt brown copper.
The luminaire is optionally available with a three-shade system made entirely of opal glass with brass bases in high-gloss chrome-plated or black metallized finish.
Due to its small size, the PH 3½-2½ table lamp in particular offers excellent placement possibilities in rooms in which small light points are to be created in order to create a pleasant atmosphere and underline the dimensions of the room.
If you are looking for a lighting concept for your living room, dining room, bedroom or any other room, the entire PH 3½ family not only creates great light, but also a very decorative and appealing interior.
The PH 3½-2½ table lamp is equipped with an E14 socket in which a large selection of light sources, including several LED variants, fit. The luminaire is 100 % glare-free.
