"The real innovation about the PH lamp is that it provides lighting that is both glare-free and economical. It's easy enough to create glare-free light (indirect and highly shielded light) if you can waste some of the light, and it's also easy to design a light that's highly efficient if you ignore the fact that it's very irritating to the eye (strong reflection, etc.), but it's an art to make light that's both glare-free and economical."
Poul Henningsen
The PH 3/2 table lamp is a member of the PH3 shade product family. The series by Poul Henningsen was conceived during a few hectic months in the winter of 1923-26 for an exhibition hall in Copenhagen called the Forum. The PH 3-shade system was initially a pendant solution, but very quickly evolved into other types of lighting for tables, floors, walls and a large number of chandeliers. As a result of the different sizes, materials, finishes and light sources, over a thousand variations have been developed over the years. Today the series is a Scandinavian classic of the world.
So is the PH 3/2 table lamp, which gives a pleasant soft light. It is reflected by several shades and emitted into the room without glare, reflections are directed from the shades via a logarithmic spiral, in the focal point of which the light source is placed. The screen sizes correspond to the ratio 3:2:1 - Each screen reduces the amount of light.
Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen, the son of the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He did not graduate as an architect, but studied at the Frederiksberg Technical School from 1911-1914 and then at the Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17. He also began to apply traditional functionalist architecture. However, his professional interest soon focused mainly on lighting design - and that is what he is famous for.
Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen , founded in 1874, creates products that represent the duality of design and light. Every detail of a design serves a purpose. Every design begins and ends with light. Louis Poulsen offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor lighting options, covering both professional and residential use. Working closely with designers and architects such as Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Øivind Slaatto, Alfred Homann, Clara von Zweigbergk, nendo - Oki Sato and GamFratesi, Louis Poulsen has established itself as one of the most important global suppliers of architectural and decorative lighting.
