With the AJ table lamps, Louis Poulsen pays tribute to designer Arne Jacobsen and celebrates the 60th anniversary of the AJ series of lamps. The collection includes both classic and contemporary colors, carefully selected to match Arne Jacobsen's existing color palette. Dark green, ocher, rust red, midnight blue, eggplant and two shades of gray are available.
The AJ table lamp is a design for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, which was inaugurated in 1960. Arne Jacobsen not only created the building, he also designed the entire interior, including furniture, cutlery, textiles and lighting, creating one of the first design hotels in the world.
The Arne Jacobsen table lamp stands out for its unusual swivel shade, whose asymmetrical shape distributes the light accordingly. The lamp base with the characteristic opening adds to the elegance and weightlessness of the design. Thus, it has long been counted among the modern classics of design of the 20. century.
The AJ table lamp is based on the same principles as the AJ floor lamp, but for better use as a work lamp, the shade has been enlarged. The angles of the conical metal shade are designed to match the angle of the lamp holder. At least that's how it was originally intended, but in reality the angle has been adjusted somewhat as an optical correction. When the lamp is tilted down, the edge of the lamp holder is horizontal. The inside of the shade is enameled matte white. The shielding is efficient, you can not see into the light source.
It is recommended to use a clear incandescent lamp, because this is the best use of light and the light rays are clearly delineated.
Arne Jacobsen was born and raised in Copenhagen. In 1927, he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen as an architect. He worked in the office of City Architect of Copenhagen until he opened his own architectural practice two years later. Arne Jacobsen is a Danish modernist architect of world renown. The buildings he designed are located in Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom.
