Shiny pendant luminaire with floral pattern in the inner shade
The Skygarden Suspension lamp collection was designed in 2007 by Marcel Wanders for the Italian lighting manufacturer Flos .
Skygarden offers diffuse light and surprises with a material mix that is unusual for a pendant luminaire: the interior of the dome is made of mechanically processed plaster cast, which looks like antique stucco work with floral motifs. The outer surface is available in two glossy painted surfaces (black and white) or two matt surfaces (rust-brown and gold).
Skygarden is available in two sizes ( Skygarden 1 / Ø 60 cm and Skygarden 2 / Ø 90 cm).
The light source inside the dome is veiled by a diffuser made of double hand-blown opal glass, the lower end of which is decorated with a laser-cut metal pattern.
Design inspired by stucco ceilings
According to designer Marcel Wanders, this is how the Skygarden Lamp inspired by an old stucco ceiling.
"In my former house I had a fabulous antique decorated stucco ceiling. I called it my Skygarden . He always looked good - completely without green thumbs and without any kind of care. He needed neither water nor sun and lived only on the warm rays of the electric light below him.
I liked him so much that I could not leave him behind when I moved out. I had to find a way to take him to my new home. So I took my tools and stole him from the ceiling. This fabulous piece of history is now hidden in a small architectural area in the heart of my new home where I can share it with friends.
If you don't tell anyone about it, I can share the secret with you". Marcel Wanders
