Floor lamp made of bamboo and washi paper
The Akari 13A floor lamp by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra is a simple and timeless lamp. Made of bamboo and washi paper, the lamp gets its very own Far Eastern style. The white, robust paper softens the light and spreads it gently and evenly. The luminaire becomes an eye-catcher in any room and, thanks to its simple design, adapts perfectly to any ambience.
Isamu Noguchi has designed more than 100 Akari lamps since 1951. The impetus for the design luminaires came from a visit to Japan.
Akari Light Sculptures Series
The Akari Light Sculpture series consists of pendant, table, floor and ceiling luminaires. The lamps have different shapes, are sometimes simple, sometimes experimental.
"The light of an Akari shines like the light of the sun that is filtered through a Shoji paper. The magic of paper transforms the cool electricity back into the eternal light of the sun. So that their warmth can continue to fill our rooms at night." Isamu Noguchi
