Michael Graves had long established himself as a world famous architect with his buildings when he made his first steps in the world of product design in the 1980s. Alberto Alessi sees his cooperation with Graves as “one of many wonderful experiences as a design manager”, “his path was enthusiastic and contradictory, it was shaped by great success and popularity.” But in the new industry, Graves was also viewed very critically. Nonetheless, his work is still received with great popularity today.
The MGSAL salt shaker, clearly inspired by the shape of a rocket, as well as the matching pepper grinder 9098, is one of the most well-known and most popular products by Graves for Alessi. While the pepper mill has its characteristic wings, the stainless steel salt shaker has a lid and closure made of PA.
With his products, not least the MGSAL salt shaker, Graves has greatly contributed in Alessi’s success as an innovative and experimental design hub since the 80s.
