The Nutcracker in an Original Guise
Do you know the fairy tale of the nutcracker? A girl, Clara, receives a nutcracker in the shape of a wooden soldier as a Christmas present from her uncle Drosselmeyer. On Christmas Eve she dreams of a battle. Her nutcracker fights against an evil mouse king with an army of tin soldiers. After his victory, he turns into a prince. Together with Clara, he travels to the Sugar Land to the Palace of the Sugar Fairy, where she holds a feast for them. The story ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ was written by E. T. A. Hoffmann and made into a ballet by Pyotr Iljitsch Tschaikowski. The ballet, which celebrated its premiere in 1892, is one of the most famous in the world today. Since then, the classic nutcracker kitchen utensil appears in a completely different light. The nutcracker’s functionality has not been the sole focus of the tool for a while now, as you can get them in a wide variety of shapes and colours. It hasn’t become a chic accessory just for the Christmas table.

Designer Nutcrackers made of Wood, Metal and with Matching Bowl
A wooden nutcracker is of course wonderful to look at and radiates Christmas spirit. Nevertheless there are many variants that go far beyond the functionality of the nostalgic item.
Tongs: nutcracker tongs have proven themselves over the years. The inside of the tongs is corrugated so that the nut doesn’t slide away. Many tongs are nut-shaped to provide a tight grip. The Cracky nutcracker by Odin doesn’t look like a traditional tin soldier, nevertheless thanks to its powerful bite and shiny silver appearance it is an eye-catcher at every table. This nutcracker can handle nuts of any size. Resistance is futile.
Closed vessels: one of the greatest peeves when cracking nuts are flying shells that subsequently have to be painstakingly regathered. Helpful here are closed nutcrackers such as the Lucky Punch by Take2 Design.
Percussion-style: the principle behind this variant of the nutcracker is simple. You hit an object against the nut, shattering its shell. With the Nut Cracker by Design im Dorf, you insert the nut, tighten the grip and the cracker is ready to take hold.
