Unikko by Maija Isola
Unikko was designed by Maija Isola in 1964 and has become an international symbol of print design. Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko , initially believed that it was not possible to capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which led to floral prints being excluded from the Marimekko collections. Maija Isola therefore developed Unikko as an abstract representation of a flower rather than a photorealistic image. Today, Unikko is a vibrant symbol of joy and creativity that fits seamlessly into the design identity of Marimekko .
