Unikko by Maija Isola
Unikko was designed by Maija Isola in 1964 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of print design. The founder of Marimekko , Armi Ratia, initially believed that it was impossible to capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which led to floral prints being excluded from the Marimekko collections. As a result, Maija Isola designed Unikko as an abstract representation of a flower rather than a photorealistic image. Today, Unikko is a living symbol of joy and creativity that is firmly woven into the design ethos of Marimekko .
