The Suomi coffee service by Rosenthal is characterised by concentration on the essentials. It was designed by the Finn Timo Sarpaneva in 1976 but the elegance of the coffee set is still current today.
The coffee set from the Rosenthal Suomi collection consists of six breakfast plates, six saucers and six coffee cups. Sarpaneva was inspired by the round, soft shape of pebble stones on Finland’s coasts when he designed the compact, organic shape of the service from Rosenthal: that’s the reason for the name of the series. Suomi is Scandinavian purism for design enthusiasts, perfect in form and majestic.
The individual parts of the Suomi collection were reduced to the essentials, that’s the reason why they can be used for many different purposes. Timo Sarpaneva was amongst others, awarded the Gold Medal from Faenza for the shape of his Suomi series, the highest award in the world of porcelain. Suomi is counted today, as before as one of the most successful services in the Rosenthal studio-line.
