Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally created for designer Alexander Girard's own use. Based on the original figurines in his estate, the sometimes cheerful, sometimes rather grim looking company is produced by Vitra as a charming addition to any interior.
The Wooden Dolls wooden figurines were originally designed by Alexander Girard for his home in Santa Fe and made by himself. The designer found inspiration for the small figures in his own extensive folk art collection.
Along with Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard is one of the defining figures of postwar American design. The focus of his multifaceted oeuvre was textile design, with his intensive study of the folk art of South America, Asia and Eastern Europe providing a major source of inspiration.
The Wooden Dolls are made of solid fir wood and are hand painted. The delivery takes place in a printed wooden box, together with a brochure.
The Wooden Dolls with the numbers 13 - 16 are also available.
