Alexander Girard is considered the master of patterns. Famous for his colourful designs for Herman Miller, his designs today adorn small pieces of furniture, home accessories and textiles.
Since he was a popular interior architect and industrial designer, Girard also took over the design of his own house in Santa Fe, which was when he also created the lovingly made Wooden Dolls. The detailed designer objects, which were inspired by the designer’s passion for international folk arts, found a place in living rooms and children’s rooms all over the world.
Owing to their growing popularity, the Wooden Doll family is now gaining an animal addition as part of the Vitra Home Complements. The Wooden Doll Cat and Dog are now joining the charming wooden figurines, which have a look that is sometimes happy, sometimes dark.
In contrast to the colourful family members, the dog and cat were kept in a subdued black. The playful figures are each made of three parts connected with magnets. Thus the individual elements can be rotated, changed and put back together again.
