Wooden singing bird for design lovers

The singing birds by Kay Bojesen are part of the legendary wooden animal collection that made the Danish designer Kay Bojesen world-famous. The wooden birds have a pure, minimalist expression and yet still have a captivating character. The Danish manufacturer Rosendahl Design Group produces Kay Bojesen's wooden animals in close collaboration with his family from high-quality beech wood, which gains in charm over the years.

70th anniversary of the legendary wooden animals

Kay Bojesen designed the first wooden animals over 70 years ago, around 1950. The songbirds were the only wooden animals that did not go into production and were only discovered in 2012 in old family photos. Since then, they have been available in various character designs with different names. There is a special anniversary bird called " Poppy " for the occasion. It is a little smaller than the other songbirds and has the year 2022 engraved on it.

Each bird has its own character

In Kay Bojesen's simple designs, form and object, seriousness and play merge into one. At the same time, Bojesen had the unique ability to bring wood to life, which has made his works international design icons. Despite their simplicity, the songbirds have a strong personality and are full of life: Curious and with attentive eyes, they keep an eye on their entire surroundings.

Amazingly, the birds have completely different characters due to their colors. Combined, they create a uniquely imaginative mood. Full of soul, humor and craftsmanship, they are not only suitable for children: Kay Bojesen's wooden animals have also become coveted collector's items on the shelves and in the offices of design enthusiasts.

More details:

The singing bird family by Kay Bojesen carries a very special family secret: the individual birds represent the different generations of designer Kay Bojesen's family - from grandchild to grandfather.

  • Kay: Songbird Kay is named after its creator himself: Kay Bojesen. As a fan of blue suits, shirts and ties, the feathered likeness of the designer naturally also shines in friendly shades of blue.
  • Peter: Peter the songbird is an elegant, modern gentleman - just like Kay Bojesen's eldest of four grandsons. As befits a gentleman, he is dressed in classic black.
  • Ruth: Ruth is the winged equivalent of Kay Bojesen's Swedish daughter-in-law. In keeping with her cheerful disposition and warm charm, Ruth appears in cheerful, feminine pink.
  • Otto: Otto is named after Kay and Erna Bojesen's son and is their pride and joy. Accordingly, he appears in an extraordinarily special plumage with which he courts his adored Ruth.
  • Pop: Not a family member but an expression of Kay Bojesen's love of soda pop is the songbird "Pop". In memory of the orange-colored drink that children loved to sip through a straw, the Pop bird is just as strikingly colored.
  • Sunshine: The songbird Sunshine represents one of the five original color combinations that Bojesen created. As a symbol of the sun, Sunshine stands for a perfect start to the day, accompanied by sunshine and birdsong. In this context, the lush green stands for the prospect of the hopefully approaching spring.
  • Ernst: Ernst is named after Kay Bojesen's father, who was behind the satirical publication "Der Tintenfisch" for many years. He was a well-known publisher who passed on his good humor, imagination and playfulness to his famous son.
  • Alfred is named after a great-grandson of Kay Bojesen. The Nordic name stands for the innocence and peacefulness that has always been inherent in the Danish designer's wooden figures.
