The German designer Constantin Wortmann enjoys playing with the viewer’s perception. His candleholder for Georg Jensen is a typical example of his vision for transformation: ‘I simply imagined the familiar silhouette of a standard candleholder with organic curves.’ The result is a candleholder which has the appearance of being slightly molten, while simultaneously radiating supple vitality that is also functionally perfect. It owes its name, Cobra, to its snake-like design and power.
‘Cobra gives the impression that it’s defying gravity and floating,’ says Wortmann. When set up by itself, it radiates snake-like vitality while groups of two or more candleholders form a sleek, candelabra-like structure. ‘It makes countless transformations possible when candleholders snake into each other.’
The high-gloss stainless steel of the Cobra candleholder is brought alive by the flickering of the candles standing securely in the candleholder. A candleholder set up by itself makes a bold and original statement. With various sizes and sets, arrangements with subtle humour can be created that play a key role in any living room set-up.
