Dogs, elephants, rhinos, puffins, humming birds, bears, apes, rabbits and rocking horses… Kay Bojesen is especially famous and popular because of his ring of wooden animals in all forms and colours, while his creativity was also responsible for much more than only four-legged creations.
Kay Bojesen already designed the colourful royal life guard in 1942, which is represented in many Danish homes around the world with its drums, flags and fusils. When Bojesen created the wooden Santa Claus in the 1940s, his inspiration was clearly guided by the lacquered guard. Kay Bojesen’s grandchildren are still reminded of the house and shop of their granddad in Bredgade, in the center of Copenhagen, which was filled with all the Santa figures and how many of them were taken home by children and young minded adults.
Now that Bojesen’s Santa Claus is produced in series, everyone has the chance to get one of those enjoyable figures, which should really be near a Christmas tree.
The bag is a new accessory for the original Kay Bojesen design and it can be filled with tasty Christmas cookies or small gifts as part of the Christmas decoration. It can also simply serve as a present itself, since the best things mostly come from small packages.
It is also a charming detail that the “Santa Kay” might be considered as the most famous Kay Bojesen’s design prototypes: The ape, which was born in 1951, has the same body and construction as the Santa. This is really an authentic Christmas story!
