The Butterfly Stool from Vitra combines Eastern shapes with the plywood processing technique developed by Charles & Ray Eames in a unique way. The Japanese designer Sori Yanagi had already designed the Butterfly Stool in 1954.
The softly swung silhouette of both seats on the Butterfly Stool is reminiscent of butterfly wings, that is why it has its name. “Schmetterling” is the German word for “butterfly”. Vitra makes the lacquered shaped plywood stool in different editions.
The fittings are made of brass. The Butterfly Stool is in the Vitra Design Museum collection.
