Side table with round steel base and birch top
The Side Table 606 designed by Aino Aalto is an unusual piece, because the side table was originally intended as a stool. Like her famous husband Alvar, Aino Aalto did without superfluous details and used soft, clear forms. Like the Chair 23, the Side Table 606 belongs to the collection of black furniture, which was presented by the two Aaltos in London in 1933.
Because of its simple colour, shape and stackability, the Side Table 606 fits into a wide variety of environments, both private and public. Originally, the 606 was used as a stool in the clinic in Paimio designed by Alvar Aalto, but it is also the simple, clear form that makes the Side Table 606 multifunctional. Artek manufactures the Side Table 606 with a frame in matt lacquered tubular steel and a top in birch veneer.
