Lounge height armchair
The LAR (LAR = Lounge Height Armchair, Rod Base) from Vitra was manufactured by Charles & Ray Eames back in 1950. It is part of the iconic Plastic Chairs series, which became known as the first mass-produced plastic chair series in furniture history and is now one of the most iconic pieces of seating furniture in the world.
Made from dyed-through polypropylene in various colors
The LAR seems to have been one of Charles' and Ray's favorite designs: The chair can be seen again and again in pictures of the Eames' home, both indoors and outdoors. This also shows how light the chair is and how easy it is to transport. With its compact dimensions, the Plastic Chair LAR is also suitable for use in smaller rooms.
The seat shell is made of dyed-through polypropylene. The base frame with struts is made of chrome-plated or powder-coated basic dark steel. Available in various colors and also with seat upholstery or full upholstery, there are countless combinations for your own four walls or public areas such as offices or cafés.
From 2024, all seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs from Vitra will be made from recycled post-consumer plastic from the German household waste collection "Der Gelbe Sack". Exception: the color white 04 will be made from the previous material until the end of 2024.
