Iconic lounge chair with oak or walnut armrests
Designed by Hvidt & Mølgaard in 1950, the AX Lounge Chair with armrests HM11 for & Tradition occupies a unique place in the post-war design landscape and embodies the democratic design movement of the time.
The Danish duo, who were already known for their Portex series, took part in the "International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design" in 1948 alongside design greats such as Hans J. Wegner and Charles Eames. The worldwide attention led to the development of the AX collection, which introduced the innovative technology of laminated veneer.
This series, praised for its comfort without upholstery, earned Hvidt & Mølgaard international recognition, including the prestigious Diplôme d'Honneur at the Milan Triennale in 195 1. The AX chair became an icon, known as the most comfortable wooden chair and can be seen in museums worldwide.
