Mart Stam, the artistic originator of the cantilever chair, created a completely new type of seating with his S 43 , which has been marketed by Thonet since the 1930s. The construction consists of a free-swinging tubular steel frame complemented by seat and backrest shells made of molded wood. The linear form and the economy of construction belong to a series of innovative furniture designs of the 1930s that can be categorized under the "New Objectivity" style.
Frame and shells in absolute reduction surprise with a swinging effect that makes the seat so comfortable that upholstery can be dispensed with. The design is dynamic, ergonomic and invites you to linger. The S 43 cantilever chair looks great at the dining table in the kitchen or living room as well as a desk chair for working and studying.
The tubular steel frame is available in a chrome-plated or lacquered finish, while the molded wood upholstery is available in stained beech, lacquered or textured lacquer in various colors.
The cantilever chair is also available with matching armrests under the name S 43 F in various colors.
