Taking the established design repertoire of the iconic 214 and 209 bentwood chairs, the design by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin (Industrial
Facility) into a material-efficient and stackable molded wood chair with an ergonomic seat shell on a lightweight tubular steel frame. Upon request, bentwood armrests complement the seating furniture, which can be used universally in both private and commercial settings and is available in a variety of wood types and color schemes.
The design of the S 220 chair from Thonet exploits to the full the technical possibilities of the molded wood material, which has always been a driving force for innovation at Thonet . The S 220 convinces with controlled organics and precise lines, while the molded wood shell pleasantly embraces and supports the user.
The elegant waist of the chair allows the seat shell to swing comfortably. The front edge of the chair, which is smoothly rounded towards the bottom, brings out the harmonious interplay of material and design. S 220 characteristic harmonious interplay of material quality, aesthetics and functionality: this "waterfall edge", as the designers call it, avoids pressure points, thus increasing seating comfort and at the same time taking up the radii of the tubular steel base.
