Shortly after its introduction, the iconic appearance of the Wishbone ("breastbone") Chair ensured that it became a best-seller among Wegner's designs. To this day, the CH24 is also known among design connoisseurs in Denmark simply as "The Chair" - probably no other characteristic could better describe the status of Hans J. Wegner's classic.
Wishbone Chair CH24 - or Y Chair
The characteristic "Y" in the backrest of the CH24 ensures comfortable sitting, at the same time stabilizes the steam-bent backrest and is of course responsible for the name of the chair. That's because the Wishbone Chair is also known as the Y Chair . The gently curved backrest, the special bracing and the hand-woven seat allow for a wide variety of sitting positions, making the CH24 suitable for different areas of use.
Hans Wegner chair convinces with craftsmanship at the highest level
With its simple design and clean lines, the CH24 Wishbone Chair is a prime example of the highest level of craftsmanship. The simple appearance hardly suggests that 100 individual steps are required to produce the chair. The hand-woven seat alone consists of 120 meters of paper cord, which is processed by Carl Hansen & Søn in uncompromising quality.
The CH24 Wishbone Chair from Carl Hansen is available in various designs. Exclusively there is a new color every month from March to December.
New color palette in cooperation with Ilse Crawford
To celebrate Hans J. Wegner's more than 70 years of collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn, the Danish label has teamed up with renowned London designer Ilse Crawford to create a new color palette for the first five chairs Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950.
In this context, the design icon "CH24 Wishbone Chair " was expanded to include nine new soft colors. Ilse Crawford was inspired here by the Danish artist Per Kirkeby and the rugged beauty of the Nordic landscape. The chairs' water-based paint finishes are also extremely environmentally friendly.
