Lounge Chair Metal by Vitra
The LCM chair comes from the Plywood collection by Vitra. LCM stands for Lounge Chair Metal and goes back to a design by the design couple Charles and Ray Eames.
The experiments with laminated wood were for Charles and Ray Eames the beginning of a search for new methods that would allow rigid materials to adapt to the shapes of the human body. In the design of the Plywood Chair, this idea of the three-dimensionally shaped plywood shells is most apparent.
For the production of the Plywood Group, wood layers are bent into shape. The thin wooden shells of the back and seat support the body with the slightly curved surfaces. The individual elements are attached to the frame with elastic rubber discs, providing additional seating comfort.
Potato Chip Armchair by Eames
The LCM by Charles and Ray Eames was quickly given the nickname "Potato Chip Chair" thanks to its thin, organically shaped seat and back shells. It is not only available with natural or black wooden shells, but also slightly padded and covered with leather or hide.
