In addition to several other tables that Alvar Aalto added to his chairs for the library in Viipuri, the simple table 81B was also created in 193 5. The entire series comprises tables of different sizes, including extendable versions, four-legged, three-legged with round, semi-circular or square table tops.
Like the legs of the Viipuri chairs, the table legs are bent into an L-shape from birch plywood: the first successes of Aalto's experiments in bending plywood. He achieved extremely interesting results with these experiments: light, lively furniture that had no equal in the 1930s or later.
The rectangular table 81B can be used as a dining table. The four legs of the table are made of clear lacquered natural birch, as in the original design, while the 4 cm thick top is available in different versions. To mark the centenary of Finland, the table is also available in stone white lacquer and in new colors for the linoleum surfaces.
The table seats four people.
