The Vitra Eames Plastic Side Chairs are undoubtedly among the ultimate classics in home furnishings. The design of the DSW chair was created in 1948 for the MoMA exhibition "Low Cost Furniture Design." Just two years later - in 1950 - the design went into production. Material Mix: DSW Chair Combines Wood and Plastic
The DSW is a contemporary version of the Eames Plastic Side Chair, originally produced with a fiberglass seat shell. Today, Vitra manufactures the chair with a more environmentally friendly polypropylene variant. The unique material combination of a plastic seat shell and wooden base has become an inspiration for many designers. Thanks to the material mix and the endless variety of colors, the chair can be customized and effortlessly integrated into any living space.
Starting in 2024, all seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs by Vitra will be made from recycled post-consumer plastic sourced from Germany's household waste collection system "Der Gelbe Sack." Exception: the color white 04 will remain available in the original material until the end of 2024.

The Eames Plastic Side Chair (Dining Height Side Chair Wooden Base) is offered by Vitra in numerous variants, colors, and with different bases. This allows the chair to be customized according to individual preferences. Since 2015, the base has been available in a new height of 43 cm. Vitra has adjusted this height to accommodate the increase in average body height since the first production in 1950. With the updated height, the Plastic Side Chair by Charles & Ray Eames offers even more seating comfort.
