Dining chair from Hans J. Wegner
The CH26 is an elegant dining chair made with exceptional craftsmanship. Already designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950, the chair is produced in a revised version since 2016 by Carl Hansen & Søn. The redesign was created in close collaboration with the Hans J. Wegner Studio based on Wegner's original, hand-drawn sketches.
With seat made of paper yarn
The CH26 was designed by Wegner exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn, but never went into production. The revised version impresses with its organic shape, bold backrest and woven seat. Sitting for long periods at the desk or dining table becomes a comfortable CH26 becomes a comfortable affair. The chair with armrests consists of a four-legged frame made of oak wood or walnut. The seat is made of paper yarn in black or natural in elaborate and careful handwork. The paper yarn, actually a substitute for leather or similar in times of war, proves to be very sturdy and durable. Wegner was a big fan of this material and used it for many of his chairs.
The newly reissued CH26 chair impresses with its robust properties and timeless appearance. It looks good at the desk, at the dining table or on its own in the living room.
New color palette in cooperation with Ilse Crawford
To celebrate Hans J. Wegner's more than 70 years of collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn, the Danish label has teamed up with renowned London designer Ilse Crawford to create a new color palette for the first five chairs Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950.
The result is a multi-faceted reinterpretation of Wegner's CH22, CH 23, CH24, CH25 and CH26 chairs, whose timelessness is further emphasized by the new, rich colors. Alluding to the rugged beauty of the Nordic landscape, each color has a slightly transparent finish that allows the grain of the oak wood to shine through.
