Cantilever Chair by Marcel Breuer
The S 35 was designed in 1929 by Marcel Breuer and presented in 1930 as a comfortable lounge chair at the Paris Grand Palais as a contribution to the Deutscher Werkbund. With the S 35 by Thonet, Marcel Breuer suceeded in integrating all of the functions of a tubular steel cantilever chair with the construction of a single uninterrupted line.
Chair with Steel Tube
The Thonet Chair S 35 consists of a curved tubular steel frame in chrome and seat and back surfaces of various materials, such as leather or fabric available in various colours. The armrests are made of stained beech or oiled walnut. The cantilever effect is doubled because the armrests, which flex independently from the seat, balance the swinging of the seat and backrest frame that projects towards the back.
For even more comfort, the S 35 chair is available with the matching footstool S35 LH in various colours and materials.
