Unikko by Maija Isola
Unikko was invented by Maija Isola in 1964 and has become an international symbol of print design. Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko , initially believed that the essence of real flowers could not be faithfully reproduced in print, which led to the exclusion of floral prints from the Marimekko collections. Maija Isola then designed Unikko as an abstract interpretation of a flower rather than a photorealistic representation. Today, Unikko is a vibrant symbol of joy and creativity that fits seamlessly into the design ethos of Marimekko .
