Design is beautiful when it makes real furnishing objects out of inconspicuous everyday elements, when it transforms functional things into exceptional products with small shapely ornaments, which are long lasting and that change our perception or common objects. The Birillo Series from Piero Lissoni and Alessi is a good example for this.
Birillo is the result of shapely work of the versatile designer Piero Lissoni and the first typologically fully-value thematic collection out of the bathroom products area from Alessi. The design of the bathroom products is a difficult duty as the products use to be simply functional objects. Accordingly high has the Piero Lissoni power to be valued because he reached to make elegant and harmonic furnishing elements out of soap dispensers, teeth brush mugs and even cotton dispensers, toilet brushes and paper containers.
Simple and beautiful, practical and versatile Birillo offers the possibility of fulfilling the bathroom and of offering an all round harmonious look to it.
The combination of the materials stainless steel and plastic (PMMA) ensures attractive contrasts of appearance and touch. Piero Lissoni was oriented by the form of a rounded square when he began his design, developing it to differently three-dimensional bodies. The designer himself describes this form as “unconventional square or totally failed round form”. With the rounded bases, the placing areas aren’t viewable. The objects of the family seem to float on the flat surfaces of the bathroom.
